Lost Girl

Since I last posted one of my favourite TV shows, Lost Girl, has come to an end.

Thanks to this wonderful show I have been introduced to a whole bunch of talented people who's careers I now follow with interest - I fan girl hard!

And thanks to Lost Girl I have met some wonderful people who have become dear friends and some who have become like family.

So thank you Lost Girl, for making me laugh and cry and for bringing such amazing people into my life.

RIP Robin Williams

I can't believe he's gone. Such a sad, sad day.

I grew up with Robin Williams on my TV and movie screens.

He made me laugh, made me cry and made me think.

There have been many times over the years that he made me laugh when I needed it the most, for that I'll always be grateful.

Thank you sir for being you, and showing us that it's ok to be yourself.

Na-Nu Na-Nu.

Being a geek has it's benefits....

In the last nine months I've been lucky enough to meet the incredibly talented and lovely Lena Headey, Zoie Palmer, Lucy Lawless, Emmanuelle Vaugier, Lindsay Wagner and Peter Mayhew.

I met Lena and Zoie at Supanova Brisbane in November last year. Lucy, Emmanuelle, Lindsay and Peter were at Supanova Gold Coast in April this year.

They were all friendly, down to earth people.

Being a huge geek has it's benefits.

Bring on Supanova Brisbane in November....

Really, is that all you've got Hollywood?

*sigh* oh look they've made another Spider-Man movie. And look over there, another Godzilla film. Because you know, we can never have enough of those....

Imagine if they took the obscene amounts of money spent on making these movies and spent it on developing the up and coming film makers out there.

Look at people like Jeremy LaLonde. Jeremy's made two very good movies (The Untitled Work of Paul Shepard and Sex After Kids) both on small budgets.

But sadly I think the mainstream film industry will keep churning out the same old stuff over and over again. I guess they've made money in the past so they figure they are safe bets to keep reaping in the cash.

Supporting the queer

When I find out that someone is a part of the LGBTI community I throw my support behind them. Especially if they make their living in some form of creative field - writing, singing, acting and all their related professions.

But, that doesn't mean I will blindly follow along. Regardless of how talented they are, their character is a big part of it.

Basically, if they're an asshole they're on their own....

Lost Girl Season 1 - 3 on DVD

I recently purchased seasons 2 and 3 of Lost Girl on DVD, region 4 for Australia.

While I'm happy to now have seasons 1 - 3 on DVD I'm not sure why there are no special features on any of them.

I'm a special features nerd and while initially it didn't bother me that there aren't any special features, the more I think about it the more annoyed I am about it.

Why am I annoyed, because I know there are special features out there on different versions (regions and formats) of the season sets.

If I want the special features why should I have to purchase a different region DVD set and go to the expense of purchasing a multi region DVD player?

In the technology age where you can download the episodes shortly after they air on TV, I would have thought that when releasing the show on DVD or Blu ray, special features would be a must have on all versions/regions.

Otherwise, what motivation is there for people who have probably already downloaded all the episodes of the show to pay money for the DVD/Blu ray sets when all they are getting is exactly what they already have for free (all be it, illegally)?

This one time at Supanova Brisbane....

So I was going to write a detailed review of my adventures at Supanova Brisbane, but then the lazy side of me won out and I did this instead....

I thought the event was well organised and the volunteers were great.

I do think however, that it was ridiculous that we weren't allowed to take photographs in the signing area or video tape during the panels. What was with that?

Anyway despite that, I had the best time. Seriously, there aren't enough good adjectives that I could use to adequately describe how good it was.

I got to hang out with a very good friend of mine for the weekend, plus I got to meet up with some of my wonderful online friends who are such lovely people. It was also great chatting to other fans, sharing our experiences.

The best bit by far though, was meeting two of my favourite people - Lena Headey and Zoie Palmer.

Lena and Zoie were both so lovely. Friendly, down to earth women who were so incredibly funny.

Plus, if you take how beautiful they are on screen and multiply that by at least 100, you'll get an understanding of just how stunningly beautiful they both are in person.

I was very proud of the fact that I didn't make an idiot of myself, well not too big of an idiot. Although I did make Lena laugh when we had our photo taken.

The thing that surprised me the most was how nervous I was meeting Zoie. I'd never been like that meeting anyone, I basically fangirled hard. But Zoie was lovely, gave me a great big hug which I'm sure you'll all agree, makes everything better!

Meeting Lena and Zoie far exceeded my expectations and cemented my support and appreciation of them both - fan for life.

All I need to know now is, when's the next one??

Supanova Pop Culture Expo - Brisbane

The Supanova Pop Culture Expo is on in Brisbane from the 8th - 10th November. I've never been to this type of thing before but when I found out that the lovely Zoie Palmer is going to be there the decision was made.

There are some other awesome folks that will be there (Summer Glau to name just one) so my tickets have been purchased and I'm just a little bit excited....

Face 2 Face (Europe Version)

In 2011 Katherine Brooks made a documentary called Face 2 Face which followed her journey to meet 50 random Facebook friends to explore how someone can have so many Facebook friends, yet feel alone and isolated.

As a follow up, she is heading to Europe to meet 20 of her Facebook friends (who she has never met) to find out the true meaning behind a friendship.

Kat is raising money for the film over on Kickstarter, with 18 days left there is a little way to go to reach her goal of $50000 - so if you can, head on over and help her out.
